McGregor pede desculpas após invadir ringue e protagonizar fiasco

O irlandês Conor McGregor pediu desculpas públicas após protagonizar um enorme fiasco no Bellator 187, última sexta-feira (10), em Dublin, na Irlanda.

O campeão peso-médio (até 70 kg) do UFC invadiu o ringue do principal concorrente do Ultimate para comemorar a vitória de seu companheiro de treinos, Charlie Ward, em duelo válido pelo card preliminar do evento.

Na confusão, McGregor acabou partindo para cima do árbitro Marc Godard, além de quase passar por cima de John Redmond, lutador que estava nocauteado no cage.

“Eu peço desculpas sinceras pelo meu comportamento no evento do último fim de semana em Dublin. Enquanto tentava apoiar um amigo e leal companheiro de time, deixei minhas emoções tomarem conta e passei do limite. Como campeão de duas categorias do UFC, produtor executivo, modelo a seguir e figura pública, devo seguir o padrão mais alto”, escreveu McGregor em suas redes sociais.

McGregor, no entanto, criticou Goddard por ‘tentar fazer com que um lutador inconsciente se levantasse do chão e forçá-lo a continuar no segundo round, mesmo contra o desejo de seu treinador’.

“A luta estava acabada. Após ver meu lutador em uma luta onde o pior aconteceu e o oponente morreu por causa das lesões da luta, pensei que o pior estivesse por acontecer novamente, perdi [o controle] e exagerei na reação. Peço desculpas a todos”, disse, citando a morte do português João Carvalho, em abril de 2016.

I sincerely apologize for my behavior at last weekends fight event in Dublin. While trying to support a loyal teammate and friend, I let my emotions get the best of me and acted out of line. As a multiple weight UFC champion, executive producer, role model and public figure, I must hold myself to a higher standard. The referee Marc Godard was making a horrendous decision in trying to pick an unconscious fighter up off the floor and force the fight to continue into the second round. Even against the wishes of the said fighters coach. The fight was over. After witnessing my fighter in a fight where the worst happened and the opponent passed away from his injuries on the night, I thought the worst was about to happen again, and I lost it and over reacted. I am sorry to everyone. I sincerely apologize to the Director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, Mike Mazzulli, all the officials and staff working the event, Andy Ryan and his fighter John, two stonch ones that put up a great fight every time. That side will always have my respect, and lastly every one of my fans. I love yous all! I’ve always learned from my mistakes and this will be no different.
